Hiring event

RTD is having a hiring event. Bus drivers, mechanics, and other frontline positions are being sought by the Regional Transportation District, which is offering a $4,000 hiring bonus. In Denver’s RiNo neighborhood, the two-day event will take place between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Monday, October 2 and Tuesday, October 3.

Starting wages for RTD bus operators are $24.96, and no prior experience is required.

General repair mechanics at RTD start at $31.46 an hour, while body shop technicians begin at $29.10.

These key positions – and many others, such as signal power maintainers, electro-mechanics, and specific IT and cybersecurity roles – remain eligible for a $4,000 signing bonus.

Bus operators will be paid to complete the nine weeks of training needed to obtain the Commercial Driver’s License. Part-time positions and overtime opportunities are available.

The Bus Operations department has bus operators, managers, supervisors, and other employees on hand to assist job seekers. Recruiters from RTD’s Human Resources division will be on hand to answer any questions about other positions within the agency. Applications will be accepted on-site.

The RTD continues to experience a staffing shortage. As of August 31, the agency had 181 vacant bus operator positions out of 952 budgeted positions, a vacancy rate of just over 19%. The number of jobs for general repair mechanics and body shop technicians was 48 out of 367, reflecting a 13% vacancy rate.

Chris Deines, the general superintendent of transportation, said RTD provides competitive salaries, comprehensive benefits, and training allowances and programs to help employees advance. As a member of an agency that invests in and cares about its people, individuals are able to connect with customers, serve communities throughout the Denver metro region, and benefit from working here.”
