A Denver police officer, identified as 32-year-old Dat Truong, has been charged with harassment following an incident in late 2023 in which he is accused of hitting a child who was in custody. The charges were filed by the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office in Adams County, according to an official news release.
The incident occurred on November 3, 2023, in the vicinity of I-225 and Colfax Avenue, as reported by authorities.
In response to the allegations, the Denver Police Department took swift action. On November 6, just three days after the incident, Officer Truong was placed on a non-patrol assignment. This decision came as part of an ongoing investigation into the matter. Officer Truong will continue in this role until the case progresses through the legal system, as confirmed by the police department.
Dat Truong has been a member of the Denver Police Department since 2014 and was most recently assigned to the Special Operations Division, according to police sources.
Following the conclusion of the legal proceedings, an administrative review of the incident will be initiated by the Denver Police Department.
Officer Truong is scheduled to appear in court again on March 5 for further proceedings related to the charges.
At this time, no further details regarding the incident have been made available to the public. The case is ongoing, and more information may emerge as the legal process unfolds.
